Using on road - 4 week/800km Review

A perfect shoe for my needs and great service from Lake as well.

I prefer to use MTB cleats for road riding and needed to replace a pair of 15 year old lace up MTB shoes. Lake shoes appeared to be well respected and the double BOA dials on these gave the promise of maximum adjustment for a comfortable fit. I inevitably had to retighten my old shoes at least once per ride.

Using the Lake measuring method, including adding 5mm to measured length, gave me a left/right length of 282/283 with a width of 101. Their sizing chart shows a 44.5 fits lengths 280.5 to 283 and width 101.9 so that's what I ordered. Off the bike the fit is snug and I might've been tempted to go with a 45 based on that alone but on the bike the fit is perfect. The double BOA give great micro adjustment both tightening and loosening and its so convenient to be able to make these adjustments during the ride from the saddle.

One initial concern was not being able to position the cleat as far back as I had them on my old shoes which had flat soles. The position was achievable but due to the contoured sole this position felt strange. I adjusted the cleats further forward to what is probably a more normally accepted position anyway and have had no issues in over 800kms of road riding.
