MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES / REGULAR WEAR AND TEAR:
Due to the severe conditions encountered during cycling activities you may need to attend to a problem as it develops. By following the tips below you can extend the life of your shoes.
CLEAT INSTALLATION
Always grease the threads of the cleat mounting bolts and torque them down to the pedal manufacturer's recommended specification. By altering between the bolts when tightening you can ensure even tension
- Re-grease and tighten the bolts regularly.
Important: We do not consider rusted, stripped or cross-threaded cleat bolts as warranty! Careful installation and maintenance of cleat bolts eliminates the chance of cleat bolt problems.
LEATHER CARE
The biggest threat to any leather shoes is repeated wet and dry. When your shoes get wet, you should never accelerate the drying process and allow the shoes to dry naturally on their own. Never use hair dryers, shoe driers or placing over or next to a heat source. This will dry out the leather and leave it hard and brittle. Instead, remove the insoles then place paper (paper towels or newspaper) inside the shoes then leave them in an open space at room temperature and allow them to dry on their own. After shoes are dry, we recommend applying the appropriate moisturizer such as leather shoe lotion, leather oil or leather dressing.
When maintained, leather will deliver excellent performance and comfort. Follow these tips to keep your shoes in the best condition possible.
- Basic maintenance: Keep the leather clean and moisturized with leather lotion or cream.
- Drying: never use heat to dry your shoes. Remove the insole, stuff the shoes with newspaper and place in a well ventilated place.
- Cleaning: Leather is easily cleaned with a soft brush and a mild detergent. Never submerge the shoes in water.
OUTSOLE DELAMINATION
If you notice your rubber sole is coming loose do the following:
- Clean both the rubber soles and the hard-sole with rubbing alcohol.
- Re-attach the sole with any shoe glue or silicone-based adhesive.
