Shoe lasts are like a template used by shoe manufacturers to ensure consistency and accuracy in shoe production. Lake Cycling has a variety of shoe lasts built for a variety of conditions. Read more below on each.
CX/MX Comfort Plus The Comfort Plus last is engineered to offer optimal foot control while pedalling, without compromising comfort during off-bike activities. Featuring the most spacious forefoot platform among our CX lasts, it easily accommodates a wide variety of foot shapes and allows for natural toe splaying. Resembling traditional athletic shoes, the MX lasts are perfect for commuting, on/off trail sports rides, and gentle terrain trekking. For riders seeking a shoe that provides both freedom and support, the Comfort Plus last is an excellent solution. |
CX/MX Sport
This last features a roomy, precisely fitted toe-box and increased foot control through the heel and saddle, providing a fit designed for aggressive riding while remaining comfortable for all-day wear. Ideal for couriers, adventure cyclists, and anyone who wears their cycling shoes for long periods, it also addresses the higher cadence and longer ride times of road cycling, which require excellent foot control to avoid hot spots and numbness. Our Sport last cradles the foot securely with its high arch and mid-width ball girth, preventing unwanted movement. |
CX/MX Competition Featuring a large toe box and a tight heel, with a slightly more aggressive sole curve than the Sport last, this design is exceptionally secure for hard riding and racing. It provides enough room in the toe box to prevent binding when running up inclines or negotiating hike-a-bike sections, making it ideal for performance riding and racing. The Competition last, specifically designed for very high-cadence riding and higher pressure, has a more curved profile than the Sport last. Key differences include increased toe pitch and heel lift, a tighter heel, and a slightly wider ball girth to allow the foot to expand under high pedalling pressures. |
CX/MX Race With a slightly narrower toe box and tighter heel than the Competition last, and less overall volume than the Sport last, this design is intended for a slimmer fit, making it most suitable for racing. It is also designed for very high-cadence riding and higher pressure, ensuring a snug fit for optimal performance. |
Winter
The Winter last features a much wider and taller toe box compared to our traditional lasts, allowing the foot to maintain proper circulation even with thicker socks. It sets the standard for winter cycling footwear. |
